The Matchup Of The Oral Care And Aspiration Pneumonia

By Jerry Adams

Those people who are currently very old and also too young are more likely to be affected with this pneumonia. Increasing risks of aspiration, weakening the whole body, and affecting the general medical status are common results of that. For extreme cases, death, reduction of life quality, or hospitalization and medicine prices shall be received on the effects as well.

A way of reducing those risks actually involves taking care of your teeth. Always forgetting to brush the teeth before or after meals is never a good practice to maintain. You might be wondering what dental care can contribute or even what really causes the previously talked about condition. This leads us to uncover facts about the clash between oral care and aspiration pneumonia.

Aspiration pneumonia has a different name which means we should expect that that is also different from the other types of the condition. The usual conditions may easily be prevented for there are vaccines available in your local hospital to stop that. However, vaccines cannot be effective in its latter for this is more on what foreign substance got into our system.

In addition, this can also develop badly on how a person is able to breathe in and aspirate a random matter which could harm us when it reaches our lungs. Its foreign matter could actually be due to the food, reflux of acid and gastric contents, saliva, or drinks. The reason why this is never safe is because bacteria shall develop or grow during the entering process.

For the healthy adults, the body has a way of protecting itself especially in the swallowing mechanism wherein it prevents unfamiliar substances in getting into the system. What hinders the protection is because of swallowing deficits or dysphagia and that leads to the risk. The problem is really on the very young individuals and very old people because their immune system may be compromised since they are not fully healthy.

A way of prevention has been by doing some maintenance regarding the teeth and that was proven from certain studies. A reduction of chances in death and respiratory distress can be met with the proper dental health. We have a very important task which has been to remind the elders about their hygiene since they can forget things already.

An increase in salivary secretions and a decrease in latency time in swallowing shall occur once the swallowing function shall be improved. Swallow reflex is said to be not delayed when the latency has been reduced. In just drinking or eating, fatigue could happen if that was delayed.

Our airways have to be protected all the time. Remember that salivary secretions actually do some cleaning activity in the oral cavity so we can consume food particles well. In other words, both drinking and eating shall be safer and more convenient.

As most elders have fake or no teeth at all, they can still be benefited from it. Caring for that part of the mouth can still be possible to maintain. Cleaning depends on the recommendation coming from dentists so be sure to follow everything since others must have their tongue or gums included for the cleanup.
