A Look Into Pasadena Psychotherapy

By Dorothy Graham

A lot of people will have visions have psychotherapy of Freud back in the day, waving his hand in front of a patient in order to hypnotise them. However, Pasadena psychotherapy is no longer like the days of Freud when patients used to lie on the couch and talk about their dreams while therapists would analyse these.

Of course, dream therapy is used. Many therapists will base their practices and theories on this and other methods which were used. However, many other techniques are used as well. These are techniques which have been introduced over the years and have been proven to be very successful because they have been tested time and time again.

The therapy can last a couple of months, but it can also last longer should a person be struggling with a personality problems. They will need continuous therapy and report back on a weekly basis. There will be times when they have to learn to make decisions. They will have family problems and challenges which can cause more stress in their lives.

Some people decide to get involved in trauma therapy as well as marriage therapy, for example. Partners need to know how to support one another when there is a crisis. If someone has been abused as a child, for example, they will definitely be affected as an adult. As a result, the individual will find that it can be difficult to cope in personal relationships. Lack of intimacy is often a problem and this is something that they need to look into.

During psychotherapy, a person should be improving. However it does take some work to get to this point. The individual needs to make the effort. It is not up to the therapist to help them get to this point. They will help guide them. Sometimes, the person will struggle making decisions and they are more dependent on the therapist.

You will feel as if you are able to confide in the therapist, feeling comfortable and confident while doing so. You may not be able to jump right ahead and spill your guts, but you will feel that this is the right person that you want to talk to. It can make such a difference when you feel that you have not been understood by anyone.

It is worthwhile keeping a journal so that you can look back at how far you have come during the process. This is encouraging, especially to someone who is more skeptical about the process. The journal is more creative and also helps you to stay focused and distract you from negative thoughts which can creep in your mind from time to time. Doing something creative like this and including it in the routine will be helpful.

There are also other practical things that are helpful, such as including exercise in your daily routine, getting enough sleep, avoiding harmful substances and eating the right things. This will help you to stay focused on your therapy program and you will be more determined to reach your goals, which vary from one person to the next and should be well planned.
