If you are looking into a more serious or dark theme, then use neutral and dark colors to create a sense of mystery and intimidation. At this stage, you can experiment with different coloring techniques.

After coloring, you have to blend the different pigments together. Highlighting is also important because if helps create a more beautiful effect. Aside from all these, you should also apply proper shadowing to allow more depth and perception to your focal point.
